This season designers returned to a more subdued, restrained approach than previous seasons, a surprise move on from the impact and experimentation designers explored in their last Fall ’19 collections. Gowns overall were more wearable and practical, with flattering silhouettes, restrained styling or subtle hints of trends, which left collections easily adaptable for any type of bride. Here, we edit our favorite looks from each collection and the stand out looks at New York Bridal Week Spring ’20…

Statement Florals
Flowers have long been a source of inspiration and adornment for bridal wear, but never have they felt more prominent and bold as the Spring’ 20 season. Designers crafted blooms into whimsical bouquets, dotted throughout collections upon sheer silks, statement laces and eclectic accessories. Designers such as Vera Wang, Viktor & Rolf Mariage, Mira Zwillinger and Dana Harel opted for sculptural flowers that grew from fabrics into textural 3D delights, while designers such as Livné White, Costarellos, Reem Acra and Naeem Khan had a more classic touch with embroidery and lace.

Featherweight Fabrics
Clouds of tulle and sweeping silks, effortlessly floating into ethereal gowns was a stand out for the season. A trend we’ve seen grace the runways for a few seasons now, yet this season, designers amped up the impact with little hesitation for a lasting statement. Livné White, Galia Lahav and Viktor & Rolf Mariage opted for bold volume crafting delicate fabric into sculptural forms, weightlessly puffing from sleeves and trains and elegantly balancing with cinched in waists and off the shoulder bodices. Designers by the likes of AboutPhaedra, Kamperett and Harriette Gordon kept things simple for the bride who likes to be more subdued, softly embracing the sheerness for an everlasting transcendental, ethereal look.

Celestial
A constellation of shimmering adornment this season; glass beading, Swarovski crystals and metallic sequins dotted sheer fabrics into hypnotic gowns inspired by the night sky. Like midnight stars falling from the heavens, embellishments delicately and gradually cascaded down the sheerest of tulles at the likes of Jenny Packham, Reem Acra, Dana Harel and Chosen by One Day. Mira Zwillinger, Harriette Gordon and Lee Petra Grebenau opted for literal interpretations with lunar motifs and star-studded accessories.

Classical
With the inherent restraint of the season, designers turned to the classic bridal of the yesteryears for a certain refined elegance. Gowns of flattering, simple silhouettes were crafted with antique-inspired lace and embroidery, baring little to no embellishments and finished off with a sweeping Chapel or Cathedral veil. Designers gave the look a modern update with plunging necklines or sheer panels to create a subdued sensuality while keeping the look elegant and graceful.
